  3. Proof your key tag, then pay:We’ll send you a digital proof of your tag so you can ensure everything looks correct. After your approval, you will then submit your payment via the secure Proof & Pay section of our website.
  4. Receive your key tags:In typically 2 to 5 days, you’ll receive your new membership key tags in the mail, ready to use in your business.

How Do Plastic Key Tags Work?

First things first, it’s important to understand how membership key tags work. Key tags are most commonly used for checking into businesses such as gyms or for loyalty programs such as those offered by retail stores. They can also be used for tracking, such as when borrowing books from a library.

Plastic key tags include encoding on the back in the form of a barcode or variable number. When you scan your key tag or enter the numbers into your membership system, a member record is accessed that contains all relevant data and tracking information.

To implement custom key tags into your membership program, you’ll need two things:

  1. Membership system:You’ll need a membership system to track all relevant member data. If you don’t have a system already, we have a list of popular membership systems you can use.
  2. Integration:You’ll need to decide which unique ID encoding method you’ll want to use on the back of your key tag. Barcodes are easily scanned, while printed numbers require you to enter them into the system by hand. We can help you decide which method is best for you.

How Do I Make Membership Key Tags?

Creating your own custom key tags is simple and only requires a few simple steps. Plus, we’re always here to help throughout the process.

1. Plan Your Membership Program

Decide how you want your members to use your key tag. Your membership program can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be. Your program will also depend on the type of business you’re in.

For example, if you’re a gym owner, your key tag can allow members to enter your building with just a scan of their tag. If you’re a retailer, a key tag can allow your customers to use their store rewards by scanning their tag.

2. Create Your Key Tag

With a membership program ready to go, it’s time to design and create your key tags. The design you choose should communicate who you are to your members, so they know which tag on their keyring belongs to you. We offer three different design options you can choose from:

  • Choose an existing design:We offer over 75+ existing designs you can choose from to get started quickly.
  • Let us design the key tag for you:If you want an expert to design your key tag for you, we offer free and low-cost custom design options. We also offer three different shape options including standard, tabbed or custom die-cut shapes.
  • Supply your own key tag design:If you have Photoshop or Illustrator, you can download one of our key tag templates to create your own design.

If you decide to create your own artwork, make sure to follow our guidelines, including DPI, bleed, trim line and live area.

3. Proof Your Key Tag, Then Pay

After you place your initial order, you’ll receive a proof of your design. Once approved, you’ll pay using our Proof & Pay section on our website. If you find any information that needs updating or you’re unhappy with the way your key tag looks, let us know in Proof & Pay.

Your first revision is free. After that, a $25 fee applies for a second revision. Make sure you look over your key tag carefully to avoid this charge. You can pay via credit card for your order online, but if you need to pay using another method, give us a call at 833-290-5684.

4. Receive Your Key Tags

You will typically receive your key tags within 2 to 5 days after approving your proof. Now’s the time to earn your first member sign-up using your new membership key tags!
