Hotel key cards make it easy for your visitors to access their room as well as other amenities within your location. Plus, they’re easy to create and implement into your system with the help of Plastic Resource.
If you already have an access management system for your hotel, to create hotel key cards for your location, all you need to do is:
- Create your hotel key cards: Design your key cards to match your hotel’s brand. We offer existing designs you can use; we can design the card for you or you can upload your own design. To see our design options in detail, visit our Design Options page.
- Proof your key card, then pay: Once you submit your order, you’ll receive a digital proof of your key card. Check to make sure all your information is correct and then pay for your order via Proof & Pay.
- Receive your hotel key cards: In typically 2 to 5 business days, you’ll receive your hotel key cards in the mail.
How Do Hotel Key Cards Work?
When a visitor checks into your hotel, you’ll use a mag stripe card with your access management system to encode a specific room’s access number onto the card. You may also include a visitor’s check-out date to further control their access.
Once the visitor finds their room, they swipe their card into the door mechanism which reads the encoded information through the stripe. If the access code is correct, the door will open for the guest. You can also use these access cards for pool and gym areas, laundry rooms, refreshment stations and more.
How Do I Make Hotel Key Cards?

1. Create Your Hotel Key Cards
The first step in the process is to create your own custom hotel key card using one of our three design options:
- Choose an existing design: We have 75+ existing designs you can choose from to jumpstart the key card creation process.
- Have us design your card for you: If you want us to handle the design, we can do so with our free and low-cost custom design options.
- Supply your own key card design: If you’re tech-savvy and have access to Photoshop or Illustrator, you can create your own design using our design templates. Simply create, upload, done.
If you decide that you do want to design your own card, be sure to follow our design guidelines to expedite the process. If you’d like to receive a quote for our custom design services, send us a message using our contact form. Remember to provide as much information as possible.
2. Proof Your Key Card, Then Pay
After placing your order, you’ll receive an initial proof of your key card’s design. After you approve it, you’ll pay using our secure Proof & Pay section on our website. If you must request any changes, do so during Proof & Pay.
Make sure you proof your design well prior to sending it back. Your first revision is free, but a second revision will require a $25 fee. We accept payment via credit card online, but you can pay using another method by calling us at 833-290-5684.
3. Receive Your Hotel Key Cards
Typically in approximately 2 to 5 business days, you’ll receive your hotel key cards in the mail. Once received, you can implement the cards with your access management system immediately.
